race to deliver

26:47 net for the four-mile Race to Deliver in the park Sunday morning - my first P.R. since my knee operation in August 2002! (except for a 15K, which doesn't really count, as I run that distance so rarely). The 6:41 pace was good for 181 out of 2,197 men -- 195 overall out of 4,554 (more women ran than men, interesting enough). My decision to not run a fall marathon and concentrate on getting faster may have been a good one...

Yes! Fourteen out of ... 2,360!
I think -- unless I get much, much faster -- there will always be women beating me in any race of more than 100 or so people.
When I lived in New Hampshire, there was this 11-year-old girl who would beat me in races. Now THAT was humiliating...

I've run about 10-15 races a year since '98 ... and have only once placed in my age group - the Kickin' Butts 5K in Manchester, N.H. on May 15, 1999, where I was 14 out of 94 overall and second in my age group. (Still have the medal!) 21:14 on a tough cross-country course, although I'd like to think I'd do much better today. I should try and do an outer-borough charity race when I get a bit faster, that's a good idea!
